Local iris enthusiasts invite you to enjoy the
beautiful flowers on display here. Show visitors who would like to learn more
about growing irises are invited to visit the Hospitality Table where members of the sponsoring clubs are
available to answer questions and provide printed material.
The Iris Garden at Goodstay, the Wilmington Campus of
the University of Delaware, on Pennsylvania Avenue, is planted and maintained
by the Diamond State Iris Society. The public is welcome to visit during
daylight hours and see a labeled collection of irises in a garden setting. Peak
bloom occurs in May.
Membership in the American Iris Society and one of
its affiliated local societies is the best way to learn more about the colorful
world of irises.
Join the American Iris Society: $25 annual single membership, $30 annual dual, $60
triennial single, $75 triennial dual, $450 life single, $545 life dual.

Show Open to the Public without Charge from 12:30 to
4:30 PM
1.
This show is conducted under the exhibition rules of the American Iris
Society, which cannot be violated.
2. Entries will be received at the show
location between 8:30 and 10:00 AM on the day of the show.
1.
Entry tags and containers will be furnished at the show, but exhibitors
will save time by obtaining containers and tags in advance and filling out the
entry tags before coming to the show.
4. Judging
will begin at 10:30 AM. Only judges, clerks, and necessary show officials will
be permitted in the exhibition area during judging.
5. Judging
will be done by accredited judges of the American Iris Society . Any award may
be withheld at the discretion of the judges.
6. All
entries must be removed within one half hour after the closing of the show.
7. Responsibility
for personal injury or for loss or damage to exhibits is disclaimed by the
sponsors, but every effort will be made to protect the exhibitors and their
property.
8. Sections
or groups for bulbous irises are eligible to receive award ribbons, special
section awards and section rosettes. Award ribbons are included in the tally
for Silver and Bronze awards, although these entries are not eligible for
"Best Specimen of Show" award.
1. Entries
are open to all amateur iris growers except that judges who are officiating at
this show may not judge sections where they or members of their immediate
family are exhibiting.
2. This
is a variety/cultivar show. Each entry must be properly identified. Each
variety and species will be judged as a separate cultivar. Judging will be
according to the standards of the American Iris Society as published in the
current Handbook for Judges and Show Officials.
3. Entries
must have been grown and entered IN PERSON by the exhibitor whose name appears
on the entry tag. Seedlings entered in Division III need not have been grown or
entered by the hybridizer. Exhibitors may make as many entries in each section
as desired, but only one specimen per variety.
4. Uniform
green glass containers for specimens will be furnished by the Committee.
5. Exhibitors
will prepare their own entry tags (both halves) and deliver to Entry-Placement
table for Classification Committee approval prior to placement on show tables.
The Committee may create, combine or sub-divide sections, as well as correct
errors in entry, classification and identification whenever possible.
6. It is
the exhibitor's responsibility to see that each specimen is placed and securely
anchored in the container as he/she wants it shown, prior to placement on the
show table.
7.
There are no single
blossom (shown without stalk) classes in this show.

SECTION E. BULBOUS IRIS (Spanish,
Dutch or other bulbous types) Specimen stalk, named. Not eligible for Best
Specimen Award.
SECTION F. HISTORIC IRIS Any iris introduced before 1977. Specimen
stalk, named. Date of introduction must appear on entry.
SECTION G. UFO's (Unidentified
flowering objects)
Any Iris whose identity is in
question. Only one blue ribbon will be awarded in this section. Not eligible
for Best Specimen Award.
Specimen stalk, numbered or
registered, but not introduced.
Three
iris stalks, same cultivar or seedling.
Should demonstrate clump habit.
Containers to be supplied by exhibitor.
Not eligible for Best Specimen, but ribbons wil count toward Sweepstakes
tally.
SHOW AWARDS
1.
First, second, third, and honorable mention ribbons may be given in
Sections A, B, C, D, E, and F and in DIVISIONS II and IV.
2. AIS Large Purple Rosette for Best
Specimen in the Show.
3. AIS
Large Purple Rosette, Silver Certificate, and Silver Medal for Horticultural
Sweepstakes for most blue ribbons.
4. Bronze
Certificate and Bronze Medal for Horticultural Sweepstakes Runner-up for second
most blue ribbons.
5.
AIS Small Purple
Rosette - awarded to 4 specimens selected for Queen's Court.
6. AIS
Best Seedling Rosette - may be awarded in Division Il.
7. Exhibition
Certificate - awarded automatically by the AIS to the best seedling in the show
and to any other seedling receiving 5 or more votes from Accredited AIS Judges
attending the show. Judges may vote for more than one seedling.
